This week I finished reading Sarah's Key, by Tatiana DeRosnay. It was a shocking story about a little Jewish girl in 1942 who's home in Paris was raided one night and her family was forced to leave. Sarah's four year old brother was scared so she locked him in a hidden cupboard, took the key with her thinking she would return for him the next morning. Sadly, Sarah and her family were taken to a stadium where they were locked up several days and then taken in cattle trains to concentration camps where the children were separated from parents and most were killed in the gas chambers. This story switches from 1942 to modern times where a magazine writer is trying to unlock some secrets about what happened that horrible time in Paris. This book was very sad to me thinking about the inhumane way people were actually treated. What is really hard to believe is that this didn't happen all that long ago. There are still people who are alive today who witnessed all that went on. There are a lot of people out there who seem to forget what others suffered during those times or actually choose to believe that those events never even took place. I know I will not forget.
